My Mission Statement

To provide knowledge and skills in cattle foot care.

Over the past 37 years, it has been a privilege to serve the Canadian Dairy Industry.

I am a current member of the Hoof Trimmers Association (Past President) as well as the Ontario Hoof Trimmers Guild. I have served as Chair of the HTA Education Committee and was also the Project Manager for the Ontario Dairy Hoof Health Project 2011-2012. A 300 herd, 20,000 cow study on biosecurity and digital dermatitis funded by the Agricultural Adaptation Council, Dairy Farmers of Ontario, and others with evaluation gathering done by members of the Ontario Hoof Trimmers Guild. I was a research presenter at the 16th Symposium and 8th Conference "Lameness in Ruminants Conference held in New Zealand 2011. I have served as an advisor to the Working Group on Functional Traits of the International Committee of Animal Recording (ICAR) 2014-16. Founder of the League of Extraordinary Hoofcare Explorers - 2021.

It has been a pleasure to work in many venues to explain hoof care. I have worked with veterinarians and companies such as EastGen and Semex. The Semex program for international visitors during the Royal Winter Fair has always been a lot of fun. Feed companies such as Shur Gain and Purina too have used my knowledge to help their clients improve their bottom line.

"I have had the pleasure of knowing Vic Daniel for a few years. He was recommended to me when I was looking for a knowledgeable person in the art of hoof trimming for a somewhat unusual herd- a boar stud. Vic came out and gave a demonstration to the staff, followed by a discussion in the meeting room. His teaching style is wonderful, and essential concepts were immediately grasped by the staff. This year I invited Vic to give a guest lecture at Ridgetown College for a course that I teach. He again produced an amazing lecture, followed by a tour of the dairy barn and a discussion of the structure and function of the leg and hoof of the cow. I noted Vic mentioned the amount of research in which he had been involved. I was told afterward by several students that they thoroughly enjoyed his talk(as did I). Students in the Dairy Herdsperson Apprenticeship program at the University of Guelph, Ridgetown Campus have the opportunity to participate in 2 packed days of learning about hoof trimming and hoof care with Vic each year. Vic has established a great learning program for these students with a combination of theory and practical hands-on learning. Vic's knowledge and enthusiasm is contagious, the group really engages in his lessons and he applies that same teaching technique during the practical sessions. The content that Vic teaches evolves and changes to keep up with industry research and data, while teaching the foundational information to help students to gain a larger understanding of hoof trimming practices that can be applied on their own farm operations.

Martin was born and raised on a dairy farm in The Netherlands and was gifted with a passion for cows.  He immigrated to the United Sates in 1989 to pursue the “American Dream”, and has never looked back. He has always been an entrepreneur and has embraced a multitude of roles in the dairy industry over the course of the past thirty years.  Martin’s experience in owning and operating his own dairy for eleven years and now his own hoof trimming business for the past 17- have only deepened his passion for the welfare and well-being of cows… especially when it comes to the health of their hooves and mobility.  

Martin has always been an innovator and driven to find better solutions in his work not only for himself, but for the benefit of cows, his colleagues, and the industry- and he’s been a mentor to many over the years.  After several years of research and development, he and wife, Carol, brought The Smart Block to life in 2015- which has become farmers and trimmers “go-to” therapeutic hoof block for treating lame cows around the world. 

Martin services several large herd dairies in New Mexico and west Texas in the realm of maintenance and therapeutic trimming, consulting, and the training of in-house trimmers.   In 2019, he earned his White Line Atlas Method Instructors Certificate from Vic Daniel in Ontario, Canada.  Martin takes great pride in his profession and loves making the lives of cows more comfortable and healthier through his different roles within the industry.

Martin VanBeek

Qualified veterinarian in 1994 from the Veterinary School of the Aristotle University of Thessalonica, Greece. His main interest was farm work to he took a predominantly cattle post in Holsworthy in Devon England for his first position and worked at another practices in Shepton Mallet in Somerset for his second post and set up his own practice Mendip Veterinary Services in 2017.

His main clinical interests are cattle fertility, genomic benchmarking, reproductive and abdominal surgery, hoof health, mastitis, bull and ram semen testing, pathology and ruminant nutrition.

Randall was born and raised in Watsonville, California, United States.  He served in the United States Air force for eight years, including a tour in Vietnam.  Upon leaving the USAF he returned to school and received an A.S. Degree in Agriculture from Merced Jr. College in Merced, California.  He received his certification as a Farrier in 1977.  A friend who was a local veterinarian asked Randal for help in handling large animals.   With a lot of lame cows being presented by farmers, Randal built his own chute to handle them safely.   Within a few months, the work volume stopped his ability to help his vet friend.   Randal started trimming cattle in 1979.  He is a member of the American Quarter Horse Association and the National Cutting Horse Association.   He has been a member of the Hoof Trimmers Association for 16 years.  Randal has been trimming horses for 37 years and cattle for 35 years.  Starting his practice with just hoof knives and nippers, he has evolved using varying trimming wheels on electric grinders. He now uses an air compressor grinder and sanding discs for the California cattle.  Randal is now retired and lives in the state of Missouri.

Born and raised in the United Kingdom, he spent his early career milking cows as a herdsperson where his interest in lameness prevention started.  He had the good fortune to have Dr. Roger Blowey BSc, BVs, FRCVS a renowned veterinarian specializing in cattle lameness as the vet for the herd Neil worked with.  With Dr. Bloweys’ passion and appetite for learning Neil took that inspiration by helping out an injured fellow trimmer to trim feet.  He then went onto working for the local veterinary practice for a few years when he decided to go for setting up his own business NJB Hoofcare in 2016.  Now he has mostly family run farms and trims about 9000 head per year now.  Besides trimming Neil has a passion for knowledge sharing.  This has lead him to look at how we trim cattle. After meeting Vic Daniel in 2016 Neil made the trip over to Canada and to learn White Line Atlas Method of trimming and the methodology of teaching it.  Neil is currently the President of the National Association of Cattle Foot Trimmers in the UK. and is a certified level 4 Hoof Trimmer which is the highest level in the Cities and Guilds criterion. Neil is a certified White Line Atlas instructor since 2018.

Doug has been involved in the Hooftrimming industry for 27 years starting in
the fall of 1994. Prior to making the career change he was involved in
construction working for mechanical contractors supervising all aspects of
plumbing, heating and air conditioning installations. Doug received his
Interprovincial Tickets in "Plumbing", "Steam Fitting" and a Provincial
"Grade B Gas Fitting Ticket" in 1985.

Doug has his "Certificate of Competence Professional Hoof Trimming" (2012)
and his "Certificate of Competence Instructor Hoof Care" (2016) issued by
the Dairy Training Centre in Oenkerk, Netherlands and for both courses he
was examined by Pieter Kloosterman who at the time was the head Hooftrimming
Instructor for DTC.

In August 2018 Doug travelled to Ontario Canada along with Neil Barrett
(Chairman NACFT) for the Instructors Course for the "White Line Atlas Method
of Hoof Trimming". This course was taught and examined by Vic Daniel who is
one of the authors and originators of the White Line Atlas Method of Hoof
Trimming.

Since 1997 Doug has been active in the Hoof Trimmers Association Inc. and
the newly formed Western Canadian Certified Hooftrimmers Association. He
has also taken part in numerous provincial and national hoof trimming
projects and is currently helping out at the UBC Dairy Research & Training
Center with data collection.

Nynne graduated as a veterinarian in spring 2001 from the Royal Veterinary and Agricultural
College in Denmark after finishing her Master Thesis on digital dermatitis in Danish Cattle. In
autumn 2001 Nynne started a PhD thesis on Lameness in Danish dairy cattle. This was the start of exciting journey into claw health, hoof trimming and collaboration with hoof trimmers from all over the world. Through the years Nynne has conducted numerous research projects on lameness and claw health. Nynne became involved in the Danish hoof trimmer education in 2002 and has been involved ever since. In 2019 the White Line Atlas method was introduced for the Danish hoof trimmers education and this method has been taught since then.

Graduated in 2005 from Technological Education Institute of Larisa Greece, Department of Animal Production. In 2008 finished successfully a MSc from UNIVERSITA DEGLI STUDI DI BARI (ITA) with the title "Produzioni Zootechniche e Vegetali di Qualita in Ambiente Mediterraneo". From 2008 since 2014 worked as a swine farm manager in a 700 reproduction saws facility as "Swine artificial insemination specialist". In 2014 took the professional licence from Ministry of Agriculture of Greece as a "Qualified Artificial Insemination professionist" in cattle , small ruminants & saws. 2015 graduated as an advance qualified cattle hoof trimmer in 5step Dutch method from Landwirtscaftscammer Echem- Niedersachsen Deutschland. Since 2015 a professional cattle claw trimmer in Greece and Cyprus. Earned his “White Line Atlas Method” Instructors Certificate in Canada in 2021. Present day a PhD candidate in University of Thessaly "Department of Agriculture of Animal production".
